Healthcare professionals and students in the field can practice in Tampere Surgical Education Centre. Manufacturers of medical devices, implants and instruments can organize their own courses. All devices used must have a marketing authorization within the EU. If you want to test devices in the development phase, you need your own permission to do so. Our surgical laboratory is 210 m² and contains eight teaching stations. With a partition wall, it can be divided into two four-station labs. The laboratory has air conditioning and good general lighting in addition to surgical lights. There are additional movable lights available. The exterior walls and doors are shielded with lead, which allows the use of radiation during training.
There are eight electronically adjustable operating tables in the surgical laboratory, and two HD displays over each operating table for endoscopic view or other teaching purposes. The displays are applicable to various endoscopic equipment from various manufacturers. HD camcorder can be installed and used on two operating tables, and the image can be transmitted to the displays in the surgical laboratory as well as to the meeting room or auditorium.
We offer basic surgical instrumentation for orthopedics, general surgery, and many other surgical procedures. In addition, arthroscopic and laparoscopic equipment, power tools, two C arms and an O arm are available. The parties organizing the training can bring their own equipment to TSEC or invite an implant or equipment manufacturer to participate in training. There are plenty of movable instrument tables available in the surgical lab. Compressed air is not available. There is a CT scanner in the same building, so it is possible to practice image-guided procedures. Please ask our staff for more detailed information!
We provide the participants with operating room clothing and shoes, all protective garments, and radiation shields. Dressing rooms and coffee area are available during a training event. Our coffee area can also be utilized for information sessions and instructions for participants using a large TV screen. The meeting room on the same floor can be reserved for the theory sessions according to its booking status.
The surgical laboratory is available on weekdays between 8 and 16 o’clock. Use of other facilities outside this time will be separately agreed upon.
Reserving the surgical laboratory
To make a reservation, contact our staff by email at tsec@pirha.fi. You can reserve the whole laboratory (5–8 stations) or a half of the lab (1–4 stations). It is also possible to divide 4 stations into several teaching sessions with series reservation. For smaller needs, ask for an offer! Once the reservation has been confirmed, a written agreement will be made.
