Data protection
Data protection is a fundamental right that safeguards the rights and freedoms of individuals with regard to the processing of personal data. Our operations in the Wellbeing services county of Pirkanmaa are governed by the EU General Data Protection Regulation 2016/679 (GDPR) and national legislation.
We will start processing customers' personal data on 1 January 2023, when social welfare and healthcare services as well as rescue services are transferred to the Wellbeing services county. The processing of staff data will also expand when the Wellbeing services county of Pirkanmaa becomes the employer of more than 19,000 people.
Proper processing of personal data will strengthen the rights of data subjects and increase openness and transparency. Key issues include the lawfulness of the processing of personal data, the minimisation and accuracy of the personal data collected and the provision of more transparent information.
Data protection in the Wellbeing services county
When you are a customer of the Wellbeing services county of Pirkanmaa or otherwise deal with us, we collect your personal data to the extent necessary for the purpose of the transaction. Personal data means information from which a person can be identified. For example, name, personal identification number, e-mail address, telephone number, customer and patient data are personal data.
There is always a legal basis for the processing of personal data in the Wellbeing services county of Pirkanmaa. We comply with good data processing practice, national data security guidelines and good practices in the processing and archiving of personal data. We train our staff regularly, monitor the processing of personal data and monitor the use of systems containing personal data.
Your rights and how to exercise them
The processing of personal data is divided into different registers according to the purposes for which it is used, for which data protection statements (in Finnish) have been drawn up. The processing of personal data by the Wellbeing services county of Pirkanmaa is usually based on compliance with a legal obligation, the performance of a task carried out in the public interest or the exercise of official authority, and the Wellbeing services county does not need your separate consent to process your personal data. However, some services process your personal data based on your consent, in which case you have the right to withdraw your consent at any time.
